MacLean’s magazine has published its 2014 guide to jobs in Canada. The sections on mining and oil and gas are particularly relevant to the north.
The writers in the article used data gathered from HRDC (Gov’t of Canada), the mining industry and the Petroleum Human Resources Council of Canada. The combined ‘top ten’ positions expected in the next ten years are :
Interestingly, petroleum engineers, mining engineers, geologists and geophysicists never made the list. These are highly demanded positions, but far fewer in number than the trades.
Canada’s north is an area where resource development will be prominent. The MacLean’s article makes the case that the trades will be in demand.
